13 to 14 December 2022 | By invitation only

One of the compelling ways to enhance sustainable freight operations in the region is enhancing the role of rail in freight transport.

In this regard, digitalization of rail operations and processes including electronic information exchange can further enhance operational efficiency and ability of rail to integrate seamlessly with other modes of transport thereby supporting measures to increase freight transported by rail.

Accordingly, ESCAP is organizing an Expert Group Meeting in a HYBRID format, to be held on 13-14 December 2022 that has an overarching objective to deliberate on its work in promoting international rail connectivity in support of SDGs.

The Meeting will assess the latest developments in promoting rail transport connectivity in Asia and the Pacific, including the progress in construction of the missing links facilitation and digitalization of rail operations, and enhancing rail interoperability along the Trans-Asian Railway Network.

In addition, it will discuss the process for the preparation and the finalization of the proposed new annex to the Intergovernmental Agreement on the Trans-Asian Railway Network entitled “General principles on electronic information exchange/data interchange among railways and between railways and control agencies along the Trans-Asian Railway network” as per the recommendations of the Working Group on Trans- Asian Railway network at its last meeting held in May 2021.

The meeting will be followed by the special capacity building session on promoting the rail connectivity between Southeast Asia and North and Central Asia.

The meeting will be held in a HYBRID format and simultaneous interpretation between English and Russian will be provided.

Participation in the meeting is only by invitation.
