The Government of Tuvalu in collaboration with UNESCAP earlier this year had launched the Tuvalu National Trade Development Strategy. In addition since its launch, we have been working with key stakeholders to implement activities outlined in the strategy action matrix. A component of this action matrix is Digital Trade or ETrade.

Hence over the last couple of months, the Tuvalu Department of Trade has worked with ESCAP Bangkok Office a team of international and local experts to conduct the Tuvalu Cross Border Readiness Assessment Study and this report is now complete and will be validated at this event. This report will provide an assessment of Tuvalu’s readiness for cross-border paperless trade, that is, the conduct of domestic and international trade in the form of electronic data and documents through the use of electronic systems.

In addition to the Validation of the Report, the Tuvalu Department of Trade and ESCAP Fiji Office will also launch the Review of the Tuvalu ETrade Readiness Assessment to provide a tool to policymakers and development partners, the eT Readies provide recommendations on concrete actions to take in order to overcome identified weaknesses in the national e-commerce ecosystem.
