The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development positioned Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) as key means of implementation of the SDGs. Advances in STI can help address the common challenges of the subregion, such as rapid population ageing and increasing disaster risks. Several member States in East and North-East Asia are leading STI at the global level. However, there is a great need for multilateral and multistakeholder cooperation for knowledge sharing and regional collaboration to maximize the benefits of such opportunities in the  subregion as well as for the Asia-Pacific region.

Our work focuses on fostering innovative solutions for sustainable development, building equitable, resilient, and inclusive societies. Ongoing initiatives include the knowledge platform on STI policies for sustainable development of the Asia-Pacific Research and Training Network; the annual Cityprenuers connecting sustainable city solutions with young start-ups; research on promoting gender equality and inclusion in the technology industry; sharing of good practices on technology for active ageing; and promoting the use of technology for building disaster resilience.
